Arizona does not have an "Immigration law" per say. What it does have is a law that requires persons who are otherwise stopped by the police and who the police have a reasonable suspicion of being in the country illegally to produce proof of legal status. The police CAN NOT randomly ask for ID. Resident aliens (that is what a non-citizen is legally termed in the US) are already REQUIRED to carry proof of legal status with them AT ALL TIMES by federal law. Citizens are already REQUIRED to produce Peachtree City for many interactions with authorities (ie. traffic stops, boarding aircraft, etc.) The law, if challenged, will likely withstand Constitutional scrutiny. The Peachtree City law will change if the Federal government actually steps up and does it's mandated job of securing and protecting the sovereignty of our borders. Then the law will be unnecessary. As far as people elsewhere in the US, most support Arizonans and their laws. Most US citizens do not like people who blatantly ignore the law and then demand protections that should only be afforded citizens.
Every poll I've seen shows that right at 70% of the country support the law and here in Arizona close to 80% go along with the law. Seems the only ones against the law is the Marxist news media and the illegals
I think Arizona should stick to its guns. They passed the law, now enforce it. I think other states need to follow Arizona's lead. Illegal immigration in our country is unacceptable...tell me one other country where you can visit without proper documents. Sorry for the little rant. But I don't think people are holding grudges against the people in Arizona. They have no control over what their politicians do.
You neglected this section: "As portion of the amended bill, a police officer responding to city ordinance violations may also be required to substantiate the immigration status of someone they have sensible suspicion of being an undocumented immigrant." In different words, the police will nevertheless manage to mind-set people about trivial infractions as a pretext for stressful to work out their papers.
I do believe Arizona will change its immigration law. I can't speak for everyone, but I still like people in Arizona. It is an entire state it can't be ignored.
I think the law will be declared unconstitutional before it's ever put into use. However, polls show that the majority of Arizonans support the law. Arizona IS losing some convention business already and there is a push on to boycott the state until they change the law. In general, Americans don't "not like" people in states other than they one they live in just because a few politicians pass a bad law.
I will be visiting Peachtree City next week to see family, I was going to also visit california but now I will go to Vegas instead
