I recently moved to Bend from WA. I am sooo confused by this CRV deposit thing. I have been saving my cans/bottles and take them to recycle. Why am I ONLY being paid .93 per pound of plastic??? I hardly think that is fair, when I have to pay, no matter what, .05 to .10 per bottle. Today I turned in close to $10 worth of bottles (I PAID $10 in CRV fees), but was only given $6.35?????? Who gets that extra money??? I have read that to get around this, you can take 50 bottles at a time and have them individually counted, and get the correct $$$ back. Problem is, I don't have time to stop by and recycle every 3 or 4 days. Seems like I'm being scammed by the good ol state of California....or maybe the recycling attendant, is he able to cash in on those bottles that I'm not being payed a refund on??? None of it adds up to me. Please look at this link and help me figure it out.
Find a different recycler. Bend it is written on the web page, you should be getting the full CRV money back. If you found the place by the zip code search, time to contact the State. If you ahve no option but that company- ask them why you have not been receiving full CRV for the items The catch is it is "This means you can bring up to 50 aluminum, 50 glass, 50 plastic and 50 bi-metal California Redemption Value containers in a single visit and request to be paid by count." In other words you have to have 50 or less of plastic bottles of each type of plastic with a few exceptions. Plus up to 50 bi-metal cans- those a magnet sticks to, and you have to ask specificically to be paid by count, not by weight. Don't just assume they are going to pay on count out of their "good nature." Caveat Emptor."
