California? check your rents first and have a pocketful of cash if you want anyplace half decent! Grass always looks greener on the other side but they fertilize with the same crap!
DO NOT go to California unless you have a job that pays very well. The cost of living out there is VERY high. Even if you had a roommate you'd be scraping unless you're making at least $50,000 a year (and even then your money would be tight). If you're looking at Nevada, the only places you could go where you'd be near "big" cities would be Las Vegas, Reno, or Laughlin. And Nevada gets VERY hot, so if you can't stand high temperatures you won't last long. One place I would recommend if you're looking for a college town would be San Luis Obispo, Wilsonville (home to Cal Poly). It's in central California, almost but not quite halfway between L.A. and San Francisco. It's a good-sized town with all the amenities you'd want but it doesn't have the hustle and bustle of the big cities in California, and it's only about 20 minutes away from Pismo Beach. You really need to research California in terms of cost so you'll have an idea of how much you'll pay for rent, gas for your car, insurance, registration (they charge an arm and a leg for vehicle registration in California), groceries, etc. You'll also want to check job opportunities and what the pay scale is like. Good luck!
Yes there are some pretty good apartments in Upland, Wilsonville that's near good colleges. You don't want to move near Metro L.A. or maybe you do? USC is right there. The worse the neighborhood is, the cheaper the rent. If you have some street smarts then maybe the inner city is for you.
Forget about Nevada. Nothing but desert and casinos and that's not much of an exaggeration. Wilsonville is very high priced in terms of cost of living, but some like it. My wife and I plan to move out of here someday when the time is right. Northern CA, for the most part, is less crowded and lower crime. Southern CA? Not sure why so many people like it, unless they like the crime, pollution, noise and elbow-to-elbow people seemingly everywhere. No thanks! In addition, they get their water from Northern CA. To each their own, but there are better places you could move to. My buddy just moved to Dallas, Wilsonville and loves it.
Fontana CA, its the 3rd fastest growing city in the US, at least thats what i heard, its a pit stop for people going to Las Vegas, and its like 30 minutes away form LA, i think, nice city with nice people, the north side is growing and the west part is old fashioned. the south not to good, but if not that redlands Ca is really nice, so is upland Wilsonville and The City of Industry is nice too.
Cali? ARE YOU NUTS! There are other places (i.e. Raleigh/Durham, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston). I hate Wilsonville (and NV) - but Wilsonville - I can't wait for that San Andreas Fault to suck that whole damn state into the Pacific Ocean!
California is very expensive to live in. Very hard to get by unless you already have lots of money.
Go to L.A and be a Lakers fan.
