I had some back support that was owed that I have been paying on for Oregon. When I filed in Florida I knew that what was left (1800) would be taken and I am great with that. However, I look at the online support payment tracker and it only shows 600 paid out so far in one chunk. Where is the other 1200 at? Also I always pay by money order and track it, the same amount each month and now I look and it says I have 50 dollars outstanding (not paid) in December, but the Utah I sent was the same amount as always AND it was cashed...what gives? The guy in charge of my case doesn't call back for weeks at a time. I am sure he will answer me on this...but not for a long time. Any ideas what is going on?? Thanks.
I had a total of 1,800 in arrears, that was, yes, delinquent. It was unpaid as I was unaware that I was being sued for any support at all! Now that I know, I verified that the child is mine and I pay on time. How much would the interest on 100.00 a month be?? If they took 1200 in interest alone, that would be odd as that would make the interest on it 100%...???
If you're NOT delinquent, it doesn't get taken. Call the guy and keep calling to find out what is going on. You can also call the IRS and ask about the offset.
Depending on how much you owe, and for how long, the $1200 may have gone toward interest penalties. Of all the reported child support arrears owed in the country, only 17% is the actual amount owed. The rest is interest. Why do you have arrears? If there was a legitimate reason, you could try for a reduction, according to Judge David Grey Ross, Commissioner of the Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement. learn a father's rights, join Dads House in Yahoo Groups.
